The idea for my wall figures arose during an assignment at art academy, where the tiles seen on Florentine church walls and floors were chosen as a starting point. I wanted to capture the peaceful atmosphere of these churches and see if I could combine it with a greater transparency towards the outside. The tiles themselves, with their lineair and repetitious design, already seemed to breath out/suggest that openness. I chose brass wire and thread to work with. When standing in front of the work, the density of the thread creates a concentration of lines and colour that evokes a sense of contemplation and unity. Moving alongside it, the panes become transparent and the work starts to move with you. On occasion I visit the homes of buyers and adjust the forms and colours to what I find there. But in general the objects already have the tendency to integrate peacefully with their surroundings.
